Alibaba launches new AI model that it says outperforms DeepSeek, China’s hottest start-up
Alibaba Unveils New AI Model Claiming to Surpass DeepSeek's and OpenAI's Technology
Alibaba has announced its latest AI model, Qwen 2.5 Max, which it claims can outperform both DeepSeek's DeepSeek-V3 and OpenAI's GPT-4. This new model is said to surpass other major AI models, including Meta's Llama-3.1-405B. The announcement boosted Alibaba's stock by 3%, while shares of Meta and Microsoft, OpenAI's partners, saw a slight dip.
Qwen 2.5 Max is compared to Claude 3.5 Sonnet by Anthropic, a competitor supported by Amazon. It is said to outperform GPT-4, DeepSeek-V3, and Llama-3.1 in a range of tests.
This development follows DeepSeek’s introduction of a more affordable and efficient AI model, which has shaken up the tech market. The rise of Alibaba’s new AI technology highlights China’s growing strength in the global tech sector. Other Chinese companies, such as ByteDance, Baidu, and Tencent, are also updating their AI models to compete in the market.
